Progressives transition smoothly across three zones (distance, mid, near) with no line: they look like regular lenses, and focus shifts with the movement of your gaze. That's why progressives became the standard correction for presbyopia.

Usually a few days to two weeks: the brain learns to find the right zone automatically. In the first days a slight unsureness on stairs and quick head turns is normal. If adaptation doesn't happen, Hoya and Seiko lenses are covered by a replacement programme — terms explained at fitting.

Honestly: entry designs work — three zones, smooth transition, all real. Flagships add width of comfort zones and stability: Hoya's Binocular Harmonization coordinates both eyes with no "swim" on head turns, Varilux X gives a wider mid zone without moving the head, and individual calculations (MySelf, Brilliance, X 3D) account for fit, the dominant eye and a lifestyle questionnaire. Because the lens is calculated for a specific frame: besides the prescription, it needs fit parameters — how the frame sits on your particular face — measured by an optometrist at the store. Shamir Fpal 13 is a stock position. Seiko progressives are made in 14–20 working days with a parameter form. Timelines for Hoya, Essilor and the rest depend on design and index — a consultant gives the exact term at order, before payment.

Yes. Photochromics — Sensity at Hoya, Transitions at Essilor — are available on any design. For drivers there's Seiko Drive X: a progressive optimised for the road, mirrors and dashboard, with a headlight-glare filter — we have a separate page on it. For curved sports frames — Seiko Curved X for base curve 4, 6 or 8.

Progressives are one pair for all distances, including the street and the wheel. Office lenses are a specialised workplace pair with wide document-and-monitor zones but a limited distance zone: you don't drive in them. Often the answer is "both": progressives as the main pair, office lenses for a long day at the desk. An exam will show what you actually need.
